'09 Ice Wine

Riesling grapes are left on the vine to fully mature, in our vineyard in Hudson, NY, then are allowed to freeze on the vine, concentrating their flavors and sugars.This can only be done certain years with low rainfall and mild autumns.Hand-picked frozen in December, these grapes are carefully transferred from small harvest baskets to our vaslin press. After several months the slow fermentation stops and leaves the natural residual sugar. Icewine is rare, Riesling IceWine is rarer still.
A delightful aromatic nose, this sweet, delicate and floral wine is so well balanced by its acidity that it will leave you with a clean, almost dry finish. This same acidity will allow this icewine to mature gracefully and develop stronger flavors, a fuller body and linger longer on the palate. Consume right away or let it age. Either way it's a memorable experience; "the nectar of the gods".
Serve chilled in a cordial style stemmed glass to sip and savor alone or after dinner. IceWine is a superb accompaniment to desserts such as blueberries, strawberries and cream, pound cake, cheesecake and crème brûlée.
