Description
(Acrylonitrile-Butadiene Copolymers) Compounds of these polymers form the backbone of our line of gaskets. Polymers vary from 18% to 50% acrylonitrile content. Resistance to petroleum products increases as acrylonitrile content increases; conversely, low-temperature flexibility decreases. Government specifications require compounds containing low levels of acrylonitrile for -65°F performance at a sacrifice of fuel, oil and high-temperature resistance. Nitrile compounds have excellent compression set, tear and abrasion resistance. Unless especially compounded, they have low resistance to ozone, sunlight, and weather. In service, they should not be stretched more than 5% or stored near motors or other ozone-generating electrical equipment. They should be kept out of direct sunlight. They are used for general purpose oil, water and air, silicone oils and grease, Di-ester base lubricants and ethylene glycol base antifreeze fluids at temperatures from as low as -65°F to as high as 275°F. They should not be used with carbon tetrachloride or trichloroethylene cleaning fluids, nitrobenzene, aniline, phosphate ester fluids, ketones, strong acids or automotive brake fluids.
