Description
VINIFICATION:
The hand picked Merlot grapes were harvested at varying levels of ripeness throughout the month of
October to give the wine an increased amount of flavor complexity. Individual parcels were treated with
varying styles of ferments, some cool, some with cold macerating and some with post ferment macerating.
Once pressed off skins the wines underwent malo-lactic fermentation in barrels and were continued to age
for a period of ten months prior to bottling.
DESCRIPTION:
The 2009 Merlot shows the qualities that have made this grape variety a favorite. The nose begins with
aromas of ripe plums, thyme, fennel and smoky oak notes. This vintage of Merlot has a mouthfeel of black
pepper, black cherry with hints of vanilla with a robust fruity finish. The use of predominately French oak
barrels add dimension to this wine. Supple tannins and moderate acidity make the Merlot from the 2009
vintage particularly well suited for food pairings. Serve this wine with pasta, pizza, grilled meat, dark
chocolate and blue or gorgonzola cheese.
