Description
ZIRCAR Alumina Rigidizer/Hardener Type AL-R/H is a single part water based colloidal suspension of alumina hydrate. Mainly used for rigidizing and hardening the surfaces of ZIRCAR® and other fibrous ceramic products, it also finds use as a coating agent and binder.
AL-R/H is easily applied by brushing, rolling, dipping, sponging or spraying. It is non flammable and is not affected by freezing. Coverage depends upon the desired hardness. One gallon covers 100 ft sq. if sprayed in a thin coating of approximately 1/16" thick. Stiffening and hardening of flexible materials occurs upon drying.
Firing to 600°C (1110°F) is sufficient to remove chemical water from the hydrated alumina to minimize outgassing during use. Due to their high surface area, the alumina particles will readily adsorb water from moist air. This tendency can be minimized by high firing and the resultant reduction in surface area.
